Despite this, both languages are now commonly spoken as a result of the large number of internal immigrants that travel between cities. Spoken Cantonese differs greatly from the more commonly spoken Mandarin. Guangzhou was the first Chinese port to receive frequent visits from European traders, earning it the nickname Canton.
